When it comes time to take on a home remodeling project, you should ask your contractor for references.

Questions to Ask you Home Remodeling Contractor’s References

So you are now getting ready to take on your home remodeling project and have asked your future contractor for references. What questions should you ask the “references”?

Did They Stay in Budget?

Did the contractor stay in the price they quoted? Not all projects always stay within budget and it is not always the contractors fault. Examples would be drywall was removed and rot was found or a tile floor was removed and cracks in the foundation were found. More often than not problems were found that could not be visually seen from the outside.

Did They Stay on Schedule?

Most contractors are good at projecting their time schedule, but as mentioned above, was there something unforeseen? This could be something like a supply chain problem or even a natural disaster. If this is the case, what was the problem?

How Did They Treat the Site?

Did they take care of not creating a big mess? Were your valuables protected? Accidents can happen, but how did they treat the situation?

Would You Use Them Again?

This is important question. As discussed, things can happen during a home remodeling project. If they handled the situation proper, they will more than likely say yes they would.

Would You Refer them to Friends and Family?

A reference might want to use them again, but are they likely to recommend them to friends and family?
